Mednoe solntse (2018) 1-Disc Set Blu-ray

Set against the turbulent backdrop of 1991 during the collapse of the Soviet Union, Mednoe solntse (The Brass Sun) is an intense and emotionally charged military drama directed by Karen Oganesyan. Major Mikhail Karyakin (acclaimed actor Vladimir Mashkov) commands a dedicated regimental brass band stationed in a remote Central Asian garrison. When their regiment receives sudden orders to redeploy, the musicians return from an out-of-town competition only to discover an abandoned barracks and a rising wave of violence as heavily armed militant insurgent groups move in to seize control of the region.

Refusing to abandon the innocent local villagers to impending danger, Karyakin and his young, combat-inexperienced musicians make the perilous decision to trade their brass instruments for rifles. Anchored by a commanding lead performance from Vladimir Mashkov alongside sharp ensemble acting, authentic period detail, and pulse-pounding action choreography, this gripping six-part mini-series explores themes of brotherhood, duty, and sacrifice. Presented on Blu-ray with striking high-definition picture and immersive sound, Mednoe solntse delivers an unforgettable wartime experience for historical drama collectors.
